Since the knowledge of Organic reaction mechanism is essential for understanding the course of Organic chemistry, a study of Organic reaction mechanism now forms an essential part of the Organic chemistry courses in all the Universities. This book is intended for students at the graduate and postgraduate level. Due to and simple style, students at all levels can get benefits from this book The book covers the conventional and the most important topics on basic concepts and logic of organic reaction mechanisms. The book consists of 7 chapters. All topics have beenselected with great care keeping in mind the needs of the students. All the seven chapters provide a vivid introduction to the basic concepts and logic of reaction mechanisms.
Chapter 1 introduces the reaction pathways and it includes aliphatic substitution reactions, elimination reactions, addition reactions and aromatic substitution reactions.
Chapter 2 considers the various reaction intermediates which one comes across during Organic reactions.
Chapters 3, 4, 5 and 6 provide information regarding the stereochemistry of the reaction.
Chapter 7 introduces kinetic and non-kinetic methods to determine the reaction mechanism.
Each chapter concludes with a set of questions. I deeply indebted to Former Vice-Chancellor Dr.V.Gnanaprakasam, Prof. K.Ambalavanan and Prof. S.Veezhinathan whose constant encouragement and guidance have been a principle source of inspiration for this work. I wish to express grateful acknowledgement to my father M.K.Swaminathan(late). I appreciate the interest and enthusiasm shown by my son S.Boovaragan and my daughter S.Buffiya during the long period of preparation of manuscript.
