The Routledge Companion to Global Literary Adaptation in the Twenty-First Century
The Routledge Companion to Global Literary Adaptation in the Twenty-First Century
English | 2023 | ISBN: 0367481707 | 389 Pages | PDF (True) | 41 MB
Featuring contributions from an international team of established and emerging scholars, this volume considers literary adaptation to be a complex global network of influences, appropriations, and audiences across a diversity of media. It offers site-specific case studies that situate literary adaptation within global market forces while challenging the homogenizing effects of globalization on local literatures and adaptation practices. The collection also provides a multi-disciplinary and transnational discussion around a wide array of topics in literary adaptation in a global context, such as soft power, decolonization, global justice, the posthuman, eco criticism, and forms of activism.

The Eclipse of Humanity Heschel's Critique of Heidegger (Studia Judaica)
Lawrence Perlman, "The Eclipse of Humanity: Heschel's Critique of Heidegger (Studia Judaica) "
English | ISBN: 3110441888 | 2016 | 216 pages | EPUB | 4 MB
It has been widely assumed that Heschel's writings are poetic inspirations devoid of philosophical analysis and unresponsive to the evil of the Holocaust. Who Is Man? (1965) contains a detailed phenomenological analyis of man and being which is directed at the main work of Martin Heidegger found primarily in Being and Time (1927) and Letter on Humanism (1946). When the analysis of Who Is Man? is unapacked in the light of these associations it is clear that Heschel rejected poetry and metaphor as a means of theological elucidation, that he offered a profound examination of the Holocaust and that the major thrust of his thinking eschews Heidegerrian deconstruction and the postmodernism that ensued in its phenomenological wake. Who Is Man? contains direct and indirect criticisms of Heidegger's notions of 'Dasein', 'thrownness', 'facticity' and 'submission' to name a few essential Heideggerian concepts. In using his ontological connective method in opposition to Heidegger's 'ontological difference', Heschel makes the argument that the biblical notion of Adam as a being open to transcendence stands in oppostion to the philosophical tradition from Parmenides to Heidegger and is the only basis for a redemptive view of humanity.

Subject Lessons The Western Education of Colonial India
Sanjay Seth, "Subject Lessons: The Western Education of Colonial India"
English | 2007 | ISBN: 0822341050 | PDF | pages: 277 | 2.0 mb
Subject Lessons offers a fascinating account of how western knowledge "traveled" to India, changed that which it encountered, and was itself transformed in the process. Beginning in 1835, India's British rulers funded schools and universities to disseminate modern, western knowledge in the expectation that it would gradually replace indigenous ways of knowing. From the start, western education was endowed with great significance in India, not only by the colonizers but also by the colonized, to the extent that today almost all "serious" knowledge about India-even within India-is based on western epistemologies. In Subject Lessons, Sanjay Seth's investigation into how western knowledge was received by Indians under colonial rule becomes a broader inquiry into how modern, western epistemology came to be seen not merely as one way of knowing among others but as knowledge itself.

Polymers and Pyridazines
Péter Tétényi, "Polymers and Pyridazines"
English | 2019 | pages: 97 | ISBN: 9814800473 | PDF | 5,0 mb
In the past few years, a few articles have been published on the solid-phase synthesis of pyridazine derivatives. These methods apply to intermediates weakly bound to polymers, as a result of which the ester bond is cleaved easily, either during ring closure or right after it. There are few polymer-supported syntheses of heterocycles. This book, Polymers and Pyridazines, discusses a new strategy for polymer-supported synthesis of pyridazine derivatives with much higher reaction rates, applying higher loading and much wider reaction conditions due to the more stable attachment. On the basis of the research conducted, a fundamental break-through was achieved in solid-phase heterocyclic chemistry. The experiments are accompanied by colored drawings and 3D diagrams to help understand the importance of swelling and/or excess concentrations of reagents. Detailed experiments provide complete procedures with infrared difference spectra. The book will be a helpful reference for academy polymer specialists and postgraduate students studying polymer syntheses of general substrates.
