Tasmania is one of Australia's Best Kept Travel Secrets. It is a true wilderness wonderland.

This is the story of a couples two week vacation to Tasmania. So what is Tasmania and where is it?
Separated from mainland Australia by the 240 km stretch of Bass Strait, Tasmania is a land apart - a place of wild and beautiful landscapes; friendly, welcoming people; a pleasant temperate climate; exceptional food and wine; rich cultural history; and a relaxed island lifestyle.
Jill and Brian toured all of the key regions of Tasmania. The driving was easy, the roads were good and the scenery in many parts stunning.
Tasmania, aka Tassie, is separated into 5 distinct regions. The first, Hobart & its surrounds - home to Tasmania's capital city of Hobart - is an intriguing blend of heritage and lifestyle, scenery and culture. You'll also find The Huon Trail winding through waterways and wilderness areas.
Launceston, Tamar and the North are full of rich cultural heritage, galleries & museums, numerous vineyards & verdant agricultural lands. This picturesque area is a quiet wildlife haven of dense fern glades, dams & waterways, crashing waterfalls and pristine beaches.
The Western Wilderness is a labyrinth of isolated beaches, wild coastlines, quaint towns and national parks. Harbour-side Strahan is the western sentinel of Tasmania's colossal World Heritage Area. Not far from it, Queenstown, once claimed the world's richest copper mine, is now a departure point for an historic steam railway journey and has a burgeoning arts community.
Tasmania's North West is one of the most remote regions of the state. Here you can trek through untouched wilderness, sample wines from coastal vineyards or watch the waves roll in from Bass Strait. Breathe in some of the cleanest air in the world, feel the force of the Roaring Forties winds and stand on a coastline where you'll feel you're at the edge of the world.
Last, but definitely not least, Tasmania's East Coast is extraordinarily diverse; secluded white sandy beaches, imposing mountains, and primeval rainforest. Home to the iconic Bay of Fires, Flinders Island and Wineglass Bay; it's barely an hours' drive from Hobart to the beginning of the area.
Looking for a destination that's bit different? A trip to Tasmania may just surprise you. It could very well amaze you. But it will certainly provide you with experiences limited to just one island on earth.
A click of your mouse is the first step to visiting this island wilderness.
