Most of the contributions to the present volume are modified versions of papers delivered at a panel organized in connection with the proceedings of the 13th European Conference on Modern South Asian Studies which was held in Toulouse, 31st. August-3rd. September 1994. Contributors came from Europe, Australia and North America as well as from South Asia. They are mostly concerned with the conversion of 'Hindus' and Muslims to Christianity though the collection also includes a paper on conversion and non-conversion experiences associated with Theosophy.
