Why Contour Drawing?

It's my Favorite Technique for Everyday Sketching. In this class I demonstrate a variety of ways to approach the technique of contour drawing as well as how it can be combined with other drawing techniques. Develop the habit of observing the contours of the objects around and you will be able to use simple lines to describe the three-dimensional world. This becomes more automatic and intuitive as you hone your skill.

These wonky drawings are fun and often humorous expressions of your surroundings. You can either delight in their wonkiness or choose to tame them, training your eyes and hand to work more slowly and carefully in unison. I think you will find observing and drawing contours an extremely beneficial skill to add to your tool box.
