Warner Bros. Jazz Christmas is a thoroughly entertaining collection of new recordings of classic holiday songs by artists on the Warner roster. Instead of sticking to one specific sound, Warner rounded up a variety of different players, rag from fusion (Bela Fleck) and smooth jazz (Bob James, Al Jarreau) to straight-ahead contemporary bop (Joshua Redman, Kirk Whalum). The result is a swig, rollicking set of bright, enjoyable jazz, highlighted by Michael Franks' original "I Bought You a Plastic Star for Your Aluminum Tree," Brad Mehldau's "Christmas Is Here," Bela Fleck and Bob James' duet on "White Christmas" and the recorded debut of vocalist Gabriela Anders on "Our First Christmas."
