Everyone desires advancement. There is no one, no matter who he is, what he does or where he is, who wants to remain stagnant in life. We all desire advancement, we desire to see progress, we all desire enlargement or increase. The employee desires higher position and raised pay, the businessperson desires more customers and bigger profit, the politician desires growing influence and increased electoral support and the pastor desires bigger impact, multiplied membership and rising financial income to fund his vision and dreams. To all these people and indeed to everyone, advancement is symbolic of success and no one wants to be a failure.
After a while, the thrill of an outstanding achievement, a notable feat or a fulfilling accomplishment fades away and the whole exhilarating experience becomes dull, uninteresting and unexciting when there is no fresh initiative and no intention to move further, rise higher, or achieve more. Leadership becomes questionable where stagnation has persisted beyond the reasonable period or decline has crossed the bearable limit.
