Testing Explanations of Short Baseline Neutrino Anomalies
Free Download Testing Explanations of Short Baseline Neutrino Anomalies by Nicolò Foppiani
English | EPUB (True) | 2023 | 226 Pages | ISBN : 3031408322 | 35.2 MB
This thesis, encompassing both theory to experiment, guides the reader in a pedagogical way through the author's attempts to resolve the mystery of the so-called MiniBooNE anomaly, where unexpected neutrino oscillations were reported, potentially explainable by the existence of light sterile neutrinos, but in contradiction with several null results. Within this context, this thesis reports one of the first analyses searching for an excess of electrons in the MicroBooNE experiment finding no excess of events and narrowing down the possible explanations for the anomaly. Additionally, this thesis explores non-minimal heavy neutral leptons as potential explanations for the MiniBooNE excess. To search for evidence for this particle, the author performs an analysis using data from the T2K experiment, which searched for pairs of electrons using a gas argon time projection. This thesis provides a comprehensive explanation of the MiniBooNE anomaly and test of its possibile explanation with liquid and gas time projection chambers.

Terry Pratchett Could Save the World
Free Download Rebecca Ann Bach, "Terry Pratchett Could Save the World "
English | ISBN: 1032445653 | 2023 | 158 pages | PDF | 18 MB
This monograph contends that attending to Pratchett's work could help to save our world. It draws attention to the astonishing capacity of Pratchett's novels to inspire and argues that Pratchett's fantasy novels directly address many of the most significant challenges people in the world face: the explosion of weapons technology; the myriad issues involved in the envelopment of human life by corporatized information technology; the destructive human inattention to, and interactions with, the Earth and its life forms; and the problem of devalued labor. Paradoxically, it is Pratchett's choice of fantasy that lets him address the reality of major issues that humanity and the rest of life confront now. Pratchett's novels show us how to better understand and confront the problems the world is contending with. The book will interest both scholars and fans.
