VueScan supports automatic and manual configuration of most parameters and batch scanning. More than 700 models of scanners are supported with a certain margin in the direction of slide scanners - Nikon, Minolta, Polaroid, Microtek, Epson. Provides automatic removal of image defects due to the infrared scanning channel and multi-pass scanning with subsequent averaging of the result - to suppress the intrinsic noise of the scanner. Filters are provided for grain suppression, unsharp masking, and original ghost removal. There are tools for manual adjustment of the dynamic range and gradation characteristics (independently for the R, G, B channels).

In most cases, the standard device driver has extremely limited options for adjusting scan parameters. Using the often hidden capabilities of a particular scanner, VueScan allows you to flexibly customize the image processing process, including advanced color correction, multi-pass and batch scanning capabilities, hardware exposure control, the choice of maximum color depth and the format of the saved files. Of great interest is the function of saving the original data of the scanner to a file (raw file) and subsequent processing of this data when the device is turned off, which eliminates the need to rescan the originals and increases the resource of the equipment.

VueScan is especially useful when working with transparent originals (negatives, slides), because the program contains information on the color characteristics of more than 150 types of films. We are talking, first of all, about the mask of the colored negative, which can differ greatly from different films and manufacturers. The program provides direct selection of a mask from the list of common films, as well as the ability to manually adjust the color components of the mask layer. Custom settings can be saved in a special file, which allows you to create individual profiles for each type of work.
